Ekzotic Music is one of Mamelodi’s most hustling rappers. In this exclusive interview with MMG’s Ronald DK Nchabeleng, he talks about his fully packed music background, past projects, new management (Team Work Media), YBWBD and his music.
ON HIS PREVIOUS SUPREME Young Boy With Big Dreams EP
Before I released the project in early 2017, my dad was very sick. He had throat cancer. He couldn’t eat and stuff. In the project I was in a dark place. I was very frustrated back then. So Supreme YBWBD was when I started getting out of that system.
I think it did well than the Melanin mixtape I released before the EP. (More on this in the video below)
ON HIS OGA SONG
I just called up Twizi Deep who is the producer of the beat to send me the beat. I didn’t tell him what kind of beat he should send. And when I received the beat I just loved and killed it. (More on this in the video)
ON LEAVING Young Boys With Big Dreams
YBWBD was me, DJ Tydo and Deej Nqoobi (Ya Mang). We were homies and really close. If there were people I could talk to, they were those guys. It was a strong relationship. I don’t know what happened. I don’t want to put all the blame on them because I also know I have my own errors.
We just started disrespecting each other. Maybe is because of the success. Somebody thinks he is superior because he is getting more gigs, he is the one who is doing this and that. I am not going to drop the name. That person thought that he should be the leader. He forgot why we formed this team. It was brotherhood.
I just decided not to be part of that anymore. I took those guys as a family and now you want to come to me as a superior. It doesn’t work like that for me. I respect you as an individual, as a brother, as a friend and as a best friend. As a person I grew up with. But they are doing great things now so that’s good. (More on this in the video)
ON HIS NEW MANAGEMENT (Team Work Media)
I was doing good. But you can’t do anything by yourself and I always thought I could. These guys are so amazing. I feel comfortable. They are like a family to me. (More on this in the video)
